About War
A game of War in your browser
War needs a shuffled deck and someone to flip against, and this page supplies both. Tap to turn your card face up, watch the higher rank collect the pile, and keep going until one side is holding all fifty-two. Nothing installs, no account gets created, and the first card is dealt the moment the page loads. The layout is the same on a phone, a tablet, or a laptop, which matters when the player is six years old and the screen is whatever happened to be within reach.
Built for the youngest player at the table
For a lot of children this is the first card game they ever play through to the end, and that shaped nearly every decision here. Card faces are oversized so a beginner can tell a nine from a jack without asking a grown-up. The flip is deliberate rather than instant, because the pause is where the comparing actually happens. A tie sets up the three-down, one-up war at that same unhurried pace. There are no coins, no streak meters, and nothing designed to nag a child into coming back tomorrow.
Rules, strategy, and a classroom guide
Four written pages sit next to the game, each one revised whenever the game itself changes so that the two never end up disagreeing:
- War RulesThe deal, the flip, and what happens on a tie.
- War for the ClassroomA printable guide for teachers using War to practice comparing numbers.
- War StrategyWhy War is a game of chance, and what that means for play.
- War VariationsEgyptian War, casino War, and other ways to play.
Egyptian War has a longer page of its own, covering the slaps and the face-card challenges, for households that grew up playing that version instead.
Who runs playwar.org
This site is operated by Card Games Studio, a small independent studio that also runs more than twenty other free card and tile game sites. The links you see between those sites are there because all of them belong to us, and the studio page names every single one so you can check that claim rather than take it on faith. Teachers and parents get the most out of this particular site, so the classroom material stays maintained alongside the code. If a rule here is stated wrong, or a war resolves in a way it clearly should not, mail hello@coffeebreak.gg and it lands with the person who can change it.
